Here are some interesting tidbits.... 'The least one can do' was started a while back, during the days of RAAS (rec.arts.anime.stories), before it became RAAC (rec.arts.anime.creative), somewhere around 1996 if not earlier. This fic is VERY VERY old. If you look at all the fics on my page, you'll notive I've written quite a few over the years. How old is this fic? The first chapter to 'The least one can do' was the third fic I ever wrote. The previous two fics were 'A day to remember' and 'Too Late'. It was never meant to turn in to the fic that it eventually became. I had NEVER intended to write anything past the first chapter. I had only continued because I got so many requests to continue it. This was probably because when this fic came out, it was probably one of the first Ranma fanfic where a new character was introduced that had no relation to any of the characters already in the manga/anime and would become Ranma's love interest. Did I plan this fic out? No. There was not one single scene in here that I had planned out. Everything was written on the fly. Everyone tends to believe that the course of this fic had to be planned out for things to fall in to place the way they did....they're wrong ;) I did not plan out anything. At around the halfway point in this fic, the story changed dramatically. Why? Because between the first half and second half, I've gotten a lot better at writing since I spent a couple of years away from working on 'The least one can do' to start and almost conclude my 'Just Won't Die' series. Working on 'Just Won't Die' is where I believe I learned to weave very intricate plotlines as well as very interesting situations. At the halfway point, the fic takes on a 'Just Won't Die' feel to it. Power levels drastically changed. This was because I was used to working with writing about higher power levels of 'Just Won't Die' because I came back to 'The least one can do' after working on 'Just Won't Die' series. Bascially, when I was working on this fic, I was in 'Just Won't Die'-mode ^_^ I had been away from 'The least one can do' for so long that I forgot the whole first half of the fic. I just continued writing pretending I did and hoping there are no huge plot holes. On occasion, I would go back in the fic to see if there are any scene that can be tied in with what I am currently like. 'The least one can do' is tied in with my 'Just Won't Die' series. Anyone who reads 'Just Won't Die' before/after reading 'The least one can do' will find many easter eggs. HOWEVER, I have yet to conclude my 'Just Won't Die' series so the two stories aren't perfectly interwoven together. At the moment, only characters have been ported over from both series, all of whom actually fit the timelines very nicely. Points of interest: Boon shows up in 'Just Won't Die Final' but only shortly. The little girl, Lisa Kurinagi, plays a vital role in 'Just Won't Die 1'. 'The least one can do' and 'Just Won't Die' are rivals. What I mean is that to anyone who've read both series, the favor for a particular fic/series could go either way. However, I believe 'Just Won't Die' is the more favored series because it's twice as large and spans worlds as well as timelines. Do I know my ships? No. I've never been on a ship before. All the information used on it I found either by asking around or looking it up. The reason I wrote the way I did was to give the impression that I actually knew what the heck I was talking about. Basically, I shovelled a whole lotta Bovine Manure, that also goes with a buncha explanations I wrote. The idea was to mix facts with fiction and making it indiscerable. For instance, fake stuff: Explanation of power/strength, touching a hot stove and muscle spasms during sleep. True stuff: Great Wall of China NOT being seen from moon, tattoos representing something, pranks played on ships, the haymaker. That's only a few. There are tons of fact/fiction throughout fic. Can you tell what's real? Ranma becoming a boxer is not my tribute to 'Hajime no Ippo' an anime favorite of mine. It just so happens that it seems like so. However, I have given it some thought to actually throwing in characters from that series. Why didn't I? Ranma would never face the boxers from that series because Ranma fought as a super heavyweight and his weigthclass was higher than Ippo's, who is a featherweight, and Takamura, who is a middleweight. I could have easily have had Ranma walk in to the 'Kamokawa gym' where said characters train but I didn't. That would make this fic an x-over ;) Why is Boon so powerful? He isn't. At the end of this fic, was at the same powerlevel as Ranma was at the beginning of 'Just Won't Die'. Boon at the end of this series is bascially what Ranma becomes for the 'Just Won't Die' series. Basically, the powerlevels aren't offscale if you compare this to the 'Just Won't Die' universe. Unfortunately, if you haven't read 'Just Won't Die' then you might feel otherwise. Gee, I wonder how many people forgot about the 'Martial arts or Bust' t-shirt that was never given or the fact that Ranma had borrowed money for Kuno ;) Please send comments if you have any Email: jeff.oneshot.wong@juno.com AIM: JeffOneShotWong ICQ: 5994272
