Why do people combine words?

Has our English language derogated so much over the years that people can now use completely made up words and get away with it?

I was listening to the radio when it started playing "Bootylicious" by 'Destiny's Child'. At that time, something struck me. We see/hear combinations of words all over the place nowaday. Somehow, people have gotten so fucking lazy that they have decided that the combining of two words into one is perfectly fine. Sure, I know that Bootylicious is a combination of Booty/Delicious which seems to indicate something along the lines of "a delicious booty", but still, I find it irritating nonetheless.

Hm, maybe it's done like that because it successfully combines two words and shortening them both to create a single word? Well, if that's the case, maybe you should call me "1shot" instead of "OneShot" since that means I don't hafta waste typing two whole extra letters on my keyboard. Then again, I think I won't do that because I'm not some stupid AIM (AOL Instant Messenger) junkie that tries to cut as many corners as possible when writing text while still sounding coherent: im sure u kno wat i mean, rite? Gr8! Besides, I know how to type without the need to look at my keyboard but only know the layout of the letters, not the numbers, and hate having to look down at the keyboard to look at the numbers keys. To me, having to look down at my keyboard makes me feel stupid. I'm plenty stupid enough and don't need to be constantly reminded this since I'm always typingDESTfront of my computer.

Anyway, when I'm usually taking a dump, that's when I usually read magazines. That's the only time I read magazines anyway since I feel like I'm wasting time just sitting on the toilet waiting for nature to take its course. Besides, I'm a big boy and know how to multi-task and reading while taking a crap isn't beyond my grasp.

I remember one day reading a game magazine in the bathroom (There were no Maxim or FHM or Stuff magazines nearby). After I'm done ripping out all those damn magazine inserts, and I started reading, I noticed that there seems to be a plethora of two words being combined into one. For instance, I saw words like 'Craptastic' and 'Gi-normous' and 'Craptacular' (ie: Crap/Fantastic, Gigantic/Enormous, and Crap/Spectacular respectively). It made me wonder why people do that. Is there really a need to do that, to combine words into one? Can't they just fetch a thesaurus? Instead of saying something like 'Craptacular', why couldn't they use something like "It fucking sucks"? It's short and to the point. There's no beating around the bush. What's the point in using a word like 'craptastic' anyway? Afterall, which has more of an impact, someone saying that a something is "craptacular" or that something "fucking sucks"?

Okay, so perhaps the game magazine can't use profanity in their publishings, but that doesn't mean they can't use "It really sucks" instead.

Now, before you start emailing me saying that I should practice what I preach and write 'want to' instead of 'wanna', let it be known that I don't care if I'm being hypocritical. Think of me as America….only my views matters, no matter how hypocritical I may seem ;)

Except for me, people shouldn't combine words.
