How come people don't lose weight?

How do you lose weight? Get off your ass and do something about it.

The problem we have is a sense of laziness. Technology made things all the easier for us to be lazy. The remote control is a good example...even though it's probably one of the greatest inventions since the wheel. Because of that, what little exercise we used to get walking to and from the television has been negated. If you want to lose weight, you have to stop being lazy and get off your ass and do something about being overweight.

You don't have the time? That's bullshit. You have the time to read this rant, time which could've been spent doing some form of exercise or perhaps eating an apple or something. You have the time...you just suck at time management and need to reassess your priorities and realize your health is very high on the priority list.

Not having time is such a bullshit excuse on why you're not losing weight. I'm sorry, but I really believe it's bullshit. If you're overweight, you are more likely to develop health problems such as heart disease, stroke, diabetes, certain types of cancer, gout, gallbladder disease, sleep apnea, osteoarthritis, and a slew of other health problems you don't want over that of someone that isn't overweight. That's some serious crap you're in risk of. If you're in this kind of risk, why don't you do something about it and lose the excess weight? Using the excuse that you don't have the time is stupid because it shows that you put your health low on the priority list. You're stupid and this world don't need stupid people.

What should you do then? Here's what you should do: DON'T DIET!

"So how am I gonna lose weight if I don't diet?" Whatever idiotic fad diet there is out there, it's probably bullshit anyway. Stay away from them. They focus on willpower to get weight off and keep it off. That's really hard to deal with, willpower. That's why 95% of people that go on those fad diets fail, because they don't have the willpower to keep the weight off after they lose weight. You failed to notice the difference between weight loss and fat loss. I have a problem with diets and believe they do more harm to you than not. Sure, you lose weight when doing you go on one of those diets, but you need to know that the weight you lose is mostly water weight and muscle mass while there is virtually little loss of fat. That's a definite no-no.

I'm gonna assume you already know something about how calories that aren't burned off during the day turns into fat and how nutrition works since you seem interested in this rant. Muscle mass burns shitloads more calories than fat does, 30-50 calories burned per pound of muscle compared to 1-2 calories burned per pound of fat. Because of the diet, you lost some muscle mass which makes your body less efficient at burning off calories. Thanks to the diet, you now have less calorie burning muscles while retaining the same amount of fat.

People rely on the scale as a gauge on weight loss. Do yourself the favor and give up the scale. Wanna really gauge yourself? Use the mirror instead and throw away your scale. Only you will be able to see improvements in yourself. The scale doesn't. You don't need a number on a scale to tell you if you should feel better or worse for yourself. Sure, you went on a diet and lost 5 pounds in the past week and the scale shows so, but that means nothing. You lose mostly water weight and muscle mass and you're going to gain the weight right back in no time. Get that through your head. Don't diet. It's bad for you.

So, you're not going to diet, what should you do then? That's easy, EAT MORE.

"What?! Eat more?! That's crazy!" you say? Well, it's not that hard to figure why you would react that way. If you eat more, the excess food will turn to fat and be stored on your body. That's wrong. First off, eat breakfast. If you always skip breakfast, then already, you're now eating more than usual. Eating breakfast jump-starts your metabolism. If you skip breakfast, you're really fucking yourself. This is cause your body hasn't eaten since dinner. That means it's been, what, around 16 hours between meals. By then, your body goes into 'survival' mode and believes it's starving and will automatically store fat out of fear that it would go into a starvation period again since it has no idea when its next meal will come. And not only that, when you get around to lunch, you will most likely over indulge on food because you starved yourself which makes it even worse for you since your body will now receive an abundant supply of calories to store as fat. Your body would basically be saying "Cool, I'm getting lots of calories now. I dunno when my next meal is so I'll store everything as fat in case I don't get food for a while and need to resort to the fat for energy" It's kinda ironic, but people that eat less actually gain more weight.

Eat Healthier!

Another way to lose weight is eat more often. Eat an apple or something small between meals. Apples and bananas taste good. That's why you never hear someone ordera meal with said fruit and say "Hold the apples/bananas", because they taste good. Eating between meals spoils your appetite, which is what you want. Spoiling your appetite makes it less likely for you to over indulge yourself when you sit down for a meal. Sure, you can be eating healthier such as eating better food besides fast food and such, but by spoiling your appetite, it makes you less likely to eat too much of said junk foods which, in essence, means you're eating healthier since you're eating LESS of the junk food you're accustomed to. Spoiling your appetite makes it less likely for you to over indulge yourself when you sit down for a meal.

DRINK MORE WATER.

That goes without saying. It fills you up making you feel less hungry and less likely to eat too much when you have a meal. And drink water DURING a meal instead of after you're done eating. I see too many people that barely drink while they eat which always results in them over indulging on food. If you drink during a meal, you're less likely to be able to finish your meal because the water also takes room in your stomach that would've been used for food instead. Okay, water has no flavor. Then how about you drink some kinda liquid like apple juice or orange juice? It doesn't taste nearly as good as soda, but it'll still quench your thirst and is a whole lot healthier for you. You need to make at least SOME kinda sacrifice in your life to lose weight. Sacrifice drinking soda in exchange for something like orange juice or such.

QUIT BEING LAZY.

You're too tired to do exercises? Well, you're a really lazy fuck and deserve to suffer what's coming to you for being overweight. You're not lazy, you're a goddamn sloth at that rate. Exercising does expend energy, but it also builds you a greater energy output over time. Before long, your body will be able to generate more energy than you know what to do with. You will also have better sleep, not because of exhaustion from exercising, but because an exercised body can take better advantage of resting periods. That enable you to actually function just as well with less sleep than a person who doesn't exercise that sleeps longer. Your body becomes more efficient at resting. Think of working out as pushing a car. It's a pain to get the car moving initially, but once you get it moving, it takes relatively little effort to keep it moving.

Everything is kind of like a chain reaction. You begin exercising and eating better, your body starts getting better. Your body starts getting better, you begin feeling better. Once you feel good about yourself, it's easy to keep going on since, by then, you've come to the conclusion that it's much easier to feel good about yourself and continue on with your journey of being healthy than to feel bad about being overweight and not doing anything about it.

All in all, it's really not that hard to lose weight. It's a slow process where you lose only around 1-2 pounds a week. Anything more is excessive weight loss (ie: non-fat weight loss). Make the time to lose weight and exercise. Work at getting the body you want. I'm dead serious, doing something as simple as taking a 15 min walk every day will do wonders. How can you NOT find the time to do so? Quit surfing the web for 15 minutes and do so. Just 15 minutes a day can help get you started on losing weight. You're reading this rant, aren't you? That's time you could've spent exercising.

For guys, if you want to save time, why not quit shaving? That should save you about 15 minutes a day. Wait, you need to shave because you don't want to grow a beard cause it looks funny on you? Congratulations, you just contradicted yourself. You're self-conscious of your appearance with a beard but not self-conscious about your appearance of being overweight, which is why you want to lose weight in the first place. For females...I can't really think of what to say to help you out with saving time since I'm a guy and have no idea what the hell you girls do that takes up so much time anyway. Ah, I can think of one that helps out both males and females....brush your teeth in the shower. That can save you a couple of minutes right there.

Do I worry about being overweight? Not really. I'm 5'6" and weight 145 pounds. Curious as to what I eat and how frequently? Here's a breakdown of what is a typical mealplan for me. It isn't like this all the time, but it's fairly accurate as to my atrocious eating habits.

Breakfast: 2 orders of 2 egg whites and ham on toasted bagel.
Morning walk(1-2miles)
Pre-Lunch: Apple or banana.
Lunch: Food from Burger King or Taco Bell.
Pre-Dinner: Apple or banana.
Pre-Workout: 1/2 pound of plain spaghetti. Yes, just plain spaghetti.
Workout (10-15min of treadmill and weightlifting)
Dinner: 1/2 pound of steamed chicken with rice.
Post-Dinner: 2-3 Strawberry Yogurts.
Midnight: Cereal.
Post-Midnight: Apple or banana.

Yes, I eat that often. That's a pretty shitty diet I have, huh? Notice how there're no vegetables in my diet. That's right, I don't eat vegetables. The vegetable I DO eat is probably the lettuce that comes with my burgers. I don't eat all that well, but what I eat DOES allow me to lose weight. I've tested it on myself and it works. ANYONE can eat like me. The hardest thing that I like to eat that people might have problems eating is plain spaghetti. Boy, that's sure hard ;) If I cut out the Burger King or Taco Bell, I'm usually around a pound lighter at end of the week. Anyone can eat what I eat. What makes me lose weight? Those damn apples/bananas I eat all the time. It fills me up so I find myself never hungry throughout the day so I never find myself craving junk food like chips or snacks. I also drink water instead of soda.

I'm no nutritional expert. I'm no exercise expert. Don't take my rant as fact. However, if you want, use this rant as a form
of inspiration and quick guide to get your ass on the path to being healthy, go right ahead. We need more healthy people around here. That way, the less of you dying from being overweight, the more there are of you visiting my page^_^

Before you flame me and explain to me how I don't see the big picture and how hard it is for an overweight person to lose weight because I've never been overweight in the first place, take into consideration that ALL the aspects I've pointed out was geared specifically for overweight people. Yes, you get cravings for junk food like a smoker does for cigarettes, but those can be fixed or alleviated mostly if you tweak your eating habits slightly. You need to realize that you HAVE to do SOMETHING in order to lose weight. Losing weight doesn't come easy. It's NOT HARD to eat a goddamn apple or banana or something to spoil your appetite. If you can't, well, then you're screwed and I can't be of help because you're beyond help. Keep in mind that you've probably lost your remote control at some time and actually took quite a bit of effort in finding it, lifting up the couch and such in doing so. You need to realize that you're not THAT lazy.

I probably offended a lot of overweight people with this rant, but I would rather offend people and get them to think "Gee, maybe OneShot's right and I really CAN lose weight and I should give it a try. What he points out is very easy" than to just say nothing out of fear of being flamed for such a rant. If you're gonna flame me, take note that I'm not ranting about overweight people...I'm ranting about them wanting to do something about their weight but doing nothing instead and expecting it to magically fall off with no effort.

If you still have problems with losing weight after trying out some of my tips, you can always chop your head off. That's a really easy way of losing 10 pounds of ugly fat.

Enough ranting from me. I'm gonna go eat an apple now.
